Buy Belgium Silver Francs Online. The Belgian Franc was the currency of the Kingdom of Belgium from 1832 until 2002. Between 1832 and 1834; ¼ , ½ , 1, 2 and 5 Franc. 2 ½ silver francs were issued between 1848 and 1850. The silver 5 franc was discontinued in 1876. In 1914, the production of the of all silver franc coins ceased. 20 francs and 50 francs were introduced in 1933 and 1939 respectively. 1n 1948, the 100 francs were introduced. The silver coinage ceased in 1955.

For the 5 silver francs, it had a diameter of 37 millimeters. Having a gross weight of 25 grams, it had a silver purity of 90.0%. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of King Leopold I facing the left side of the coin. Along the rim of the coin on the left is the text “LEOPOLD PREMIER” which is from the bottom- to the top-left. The inscription “ROI DES BELGES” is from the top-right to the bottom-right; which translates to “King of Belgians”. At the bottom of the coin, the designer’s name is inscribed below the effigy, “L. WILNER”.

The reverse of the Belgium Silver Franc coin contains a text “L• UNION FAIT LA FORCE” is inscribed from the top-left to the top-right, in a clockwise direction. The Belgian coat of arms is engraved on the coin. It consists of the shield with a standing lion. The royal crown is also part of the coat of arms is above the shield. Two wreaths are on the periphery of the coin; one from the right side, the other from left side. The two wreaths are tied at together at the point of crossing, below the shield. The shield separates the numeric value of the coin and the currency abbreviation; the numeral being on the left, abbreviation on the right. For example, “5” on the left, “F” on the right. The date of minting is engraved at the bottom of the Belgium Silver Franc coin.

The Royal Mint of Belgium was responsible for minting of all official Silver Franc coins from 1832 until 2017.
